Watch a Movie that You've Loved a Hundred Times
You know all the words to this movie and still laugh at the jokes. This is the movie that can makes you late because you just have to watch that scene one more time. This staple movie is the perfect companion for your at-home mani.
Tuning into your favorite movie will help you pace yourself and avoid getting bubbles in your manicure. Bubbles happen when we paint our nails before the last coat is completely dry. Guilty. The re-run movie and a mani session helps slow down the process. And since its a movie your seen before, you will be able to move forward with painting the next coat on a dry surface without missing anything on the small screen.
No Cuticle Clipping - Push Them Back Instead
Go with a Glitter Polish for Newbies
1 + 2 + 1 = Perfect 10
AND finally, add 1 Top coat. The top coat adds shine for days. My preferred top coat, Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat, has self-leveling properties and dries fast with a glassy shine.
Make a Nail Polish Eraser
Ever painted the side wall of your nail. Frustrating, but not a big deal. You can wait until the polish is dry and then wash your hands with soap and water. This will gently remove the polish from your skin.

meet the Original Broomstick Master
Every time I think about the #BroomChallenge, remember Turbo from Breakin' commanding the broom masterfully as he swept the sidewalk.
Breaking is a New Olympic Sport
Turbo, Michael Chambers, is still pop-locking today. Dubbed the Boogaloo Shrimp by his sister, Chambers allegedly taught the Michael Jackson how to Moonwalk. It was said that Michael Jackson was so impressed with Chambers’ moves that he became a student of the master. Well, at least for the backslide dubbed the infamous Moonwalk. In his documentary on Amazon Prime (linked in the boom box below), Turbo walks us through how he actually made his broom stick stand. There’s also some fishing wire in the mix, but I bet it’s safe to say that we have found the OG of the Broom Stick challenge.
The #BroomstickChallenge makes me want to see this cool movie from the 80s remade. And why not?
The Best Part of Breakin' 2
My favorite scene was from Breakin' 2 Electric Boogaloo when the bulldozer came to tear down the beloved community center. The ultimate battle of break dancers versus bulldozers ensued. Guess who won. Or click to watch below.
Two Cents
Since Break dancing has windmilled its way into an Olympic sport and Turbo is the original master of the Broom Challenge, I motion that the movie Breakin' be remade for all to love again. All in favor, "say aye." All opposed, "say aye," too.
Reminder of a PromiseUnburdened, I was able to smile again and be at peace with the world. But God wasn't finished yet. He reminded me of a promise that he poured into my heart four months ago. A promise I'd forgotten. I knew I would forget. I knew the each day's worries were enough to steal chunks of my peace. So, I have prayer notebooks, index cards, and sticky notes everywhere. Next LevelI placed the index card, penned with three scriptures, at eye level and accepted my reassignment. Have you been reassigned lately?
Nail Polish Makes People HappyI can watch this color pour all day, too.

I fell in love with this endearing tale of a little girl who loves her crown the way her mom taught her. Many thanks to Belle Bar Organic for sharing the Hair Love. Click image below to watch the Oscar Award winning film, Hair Love.
“Hair Love was done because we wanted to see more representation in animation and we wanted to normalize black hair,” Cherry said. He also advocated for federal passage of the Crown Act, a California law that prohibits discrimination based on hair style or texture"

If your mani is still a little less than desirable, especially the dominant hand, just remember, practice makes better. It may not be perfect right away, but each mani gets you closer to a Perfect 10.

I am in love!! It's not every day that a ruddy-orange glitter polish comes into my world and gets two manicured thumbs up.
Usually, I'm not a fan of glitter polish. And I'm more of a pink and blue lacquer lover. BUT this "Cherry Bomb" from Kaeess Nail Polish's Glitterati Collection is every kind of gorgeous.
The golden flecks sparkle through this ruddy-orange and the shimmers complement my brown skin. New dilemma: To topcoat or not to topcoat? I like Cherry Bomb both ways. If you like it smooth, Kaeess Nail Polish offers a three in one base, top coat & cuticle oil combo. If you choose not to top coat, this color behaves like a sparkling matte. It's a beautiful contrast. Every other nail color in the world, I would hands down suggest a top coat. BUT this Cherry Bomb in the Glitterati Collection is special even without a top coat. Wont last as long without that top coat, but it is so pretty that I would wear it sparkling matte for a special occasion.

I am closer to cracking my natural hair code.
My wash day experience has been a breeze since I finally stopped being cheap and actually bought a really good sulfate-free shampoo. Yet, every great step toward my perfect natural hair comes with another challenge or three. Challenge #1 - Hello frizz-halo. I know Natural Hair frizzes, but mine balloons as the day goes on. I found this article from Naturally Curly. Guilty of items 3, 4, and 8. So, I will dabble in soft hold gels and mousse to see if I can overcome Challenge #2. Challenge #2 - The dry hair dilemma. What's Day 2 hair and how do I get there? My high porosity hair looks great until I step outside. Then its like the air seeps into the cuticle of my hair and pushes out all the products I layered onto my hair. Is that even possible? Is there a Trichologist in the room? I'll be experimenting with protein treatments to fill the gaps in my hair and keep you posted. Challenge #3 - And dull. Ahem. Can I get some shine please? A friend of mine uses Sweet Almond Oil to add shine. Simple enough. I'll give that a try. No worries though. I'm guessing, I'm just a protein treatment and the right stlyler away from a solution. Join me on the journey and if you know something that I don't, please share!! Pictured: Day 4 hair with nightly refreshes and moisturizing. Details on products that are loving my hair are listed below.
PRODUCTS THAT I USED:
Shampoo: TGIN sulfate-free shampoo. I spent $11 for this shampoo and have gotten through 4 wash days. I still have enough left for almost two more months of weekly washes. I have fine, low density hair. The amount you need may vary based on your hair length and density. Conditioner: TGIN Honey Miracle Deep Conditioner (one-hour). I am in love with how crazy-soft my hair. I haven't fallen in love with a regular conditioner yet. Moisturizer: TGIN Daily Butter Creme. It's literally like butta baby. I love the way this creme glides through my hair. The slip is fantastic. I also get a nice soft hold. So, I use the butter creme from my edges, slip on a scarf for 5 minutes and nicely laid. I try not to use too much to avoid getting a white film. Styling Method: Banding Method (love this more than twist outs and wash & go-s) Tutorials coming soon. NIGHTTIME REFRESH & RE-BAND Liquid: a D.I.Y. 50/50 mix of Aloe Vera Juice and Water. Makes my hair super soft. The best $6.44 I have ever spent since that gallon is still sitting in my fridge. Refresh Moisturizer: Curls Dynasty Icing on A Curl. This all-natural mango and shea butter blend stretches my tight curl pattern like a dream. Then I band my hair, sleep and release the bands in the morning. Just a fluff and maybe some edge control and I am out the door. I am so close to cracking the code. Stick around. It wont be long now. Happy Hugs, Makeda |
