Train up a child in the way he should go
[teaching him to seek God's wisdom and will for his abilities and talents],
Even when he is old he will not depart from it.

Remote Learning… Again

Quasi Segregation?

It’s a new year.
Omicron is here.
And new policies followed.

The latest policy lined up behind forever masking at school is remote learning for unvaccinated students and in-person learning for vaccinated elementary school students.🧐
Unfair? Certainly. Especially since those who are vaccinated also spread the virus.
And there’s nothing more telling than listening in on my 1st grader’s remote lesson on Martin Luther King, Jr about how segregation was wrong. Try as I might, I don't see the difference in this situation either.

Maybe in fifty years or so another first grade class will learn that segregation based on vaccination status was also wrong.
My children have been to school a whopping two days since 2022 began. It further confirms that it’s time to teach them at home myself. So we’re tip toeing into homeschool life by testing curriculum.

Kneoworld

We purchased a family subscription for all three boys in Pre-K, 1st grade, and 5th grade.

I was drawn to this internet based program because the vibrant anime characters caught my attention.

And as I suspected, the program kept my boys entertained for hours.

Math & Literacy online story lessons.
Pros:
⭐️ My boys love the Brain Games.
⭐️ I like the practice work.
⭐️ And Reading is part of every lesson.
Cons:
The lessons were still images with comic bubbles and not videos. The boys were disappointed. We expected video lessons with captions.
I still have to sit with the boys and teach along with the program, but it’s nice to have the curriculum side of things covered. I wish there were more unit-by-unit lessons with each unit covering a specific topic in more detail. Instead of picking a lesson on Order of Operations, it would be better to break that down further into categories so I could see their weaknesses.

I’m not certain this program is what we need to supplement almost two years of interrupted learning.

I also found myself skipping over the Adventure Stories because the story line of people ruining the earth and moving to
space felt force fed. But that may just be me.

Anyway, I’m still on the hunt for something with more “meat.”

And maybe with actual books (that I don’t have to print) because it would be nice to step away from the screen.
